The debut album of the Zatopeks from London/Birmingham is a mix of 50's pop, 90's Lookout! punk rock and Tom Waits kind of twists. Together with the introspective story telling lyrics of monobrowed frontman Will DeNiro this sets the Zatopeks apart from all the pop punk bands out there. This album contains 14 songs full of melody, wit and energy, a genre classic to be.

What a debut! First off, what is with the name? Zatopeks must have got their name from a Czech born long distance runner named Emil Zatopek best known for winning three gold metals in the 1952 Summer Olympics. Thats kinda cool right. What else is cool is that Ain't Nobody Left But Us is a concept album. All you got to do is place yourself back in the days of the "Grease" movie and let your ears do the rest. A++++++++++

What an interesting CD. About a third of the songs revolve around a fifties-style fued between the Zatopeks and fiction rival gang the Vipers. Thoughtful melodic punk fills out the rest ably.

The CD does take several listens to really get a feel for it - the lyrics are largely storytelling and Will DeNiro's voice does take a bit of getting used to. Once the CD "clicks", it all comes together - the lyrics, the melodies - to make the songs really come alive and give a unified experience.

From the 50's rival gang novelties to the poetry set to music of "Jenny Kissed Me" to the unforgettable "Sophie Scholl", this is an underrated classic.

Best record out of the UK ever. Hands down. The Zatopeks are probably the best pop punk band around right now, but they don't share the same stale sound the dominates the genre.

These guys are just great. "Buddy Holly's grand children" - you can't do nothing, but love them.

Songs like: "Turkish Bread Chronicle", "City Lights", "The Summer I Fell In Love With Jimmy's Girl" and not to forget "Sophie Scholl" are songs that just stays in you memory for weeks.

A great mixture of catchy pop-punk and Tom Waits, spiced with Will DeNiro's super cool lyrics. Can't go wrong with buying this one!

I got this because The Spazzys (who's album is killer) sing a song about them. I like this album, the vocalist sounds a bit like Fergal Sharkey of the Undertones. I particularly liked the 50s styled numbers, especially were there is a conflict with the (mythical?) Vipers. "Jimmys girl" is like a pop punk "leader of the pack". One or two of the tracks are a bit generic but the Zapotec v. Vipers songs make it worthwhile.
