Bad Scene, Everyone's Fault - Jawbreaker Tribute
Dying Wish 6
Released on July 29, 2003
|
Jawbreaker has had such a great influence over so many different bands, in so many different scenes, in so many different parts of the world. They are one of the few groups that transcend every genre. East and west coast, European, Australian, punk, emo, hardcore, and even seminal bands that are looked on as punk icons, such as Face to Face, all point to Jawbreaker as a group that has affected their music.
For the first time ever, Dying Wish Records has brought together a group of bands from all over the world to pay tribute to Jawbreaker - all on one album. The Dying Wish Records Jawbreaker Tribute features 17 brand new, unreleased, Jawbreaker cover tracks plus 1 bonus track from some of today's most popular, up-and-coming, and legendary bands. With this album we aim to inspire and expose a new generartion of fans to the music of Jawbreaker.

My first thought when I saw this disc was "Fall Out Boy covering a Jawbreaker song?! What's next?! Jamison Parker covering an Exhorder song?!" To my surprise, however, even the teen girl pop bands do well here. I find that they all do the originals justice. Very fun record. Don't second guess it. Buy it!

Duvall, Sparta, and Nerf Herder are really the only ones with great covers. Aeffect, Reunion Show, and Jeff Ott also get points for being different. The others are okay, but sound too much like the originals. It's still one of the better tributes though, and fun to listen to for fans of Jawbreaker.

I enjoyed this comp. alot. I was kind of sketchy about buy it at first becuase of bands like Riddlin' Kids, Fall Out Boy, and Reunion Show, but even those tracks weren't bad. BigWig, Face To Face, and Nerf Herder all had killer songs. In my opinion the two best songs on the cd are, Sparta and Duvall, both are very diffrent from the Jawbreaker version but they still pay good respect to the songs.

A very well put together tribute for the kings of emo, and also one of the best bands to ever come out of San Francisco. My favorite cover on this disc is jeff otts cover of better half.
