Homer
Painting Memories
Funtime 10.01
Released on May 20, 2001

After a split cd with fellow labelmates Billy Liar, this is the debut full length for Hageland based melodic punkrockband Homer. Blending poppunk, emo and even a slight hint of hardcore into a collection of twelve singalong songs. Think of Satanic Surfers with a hint of New Found Glory...

| This is a decent release from Homer. I would however recommend "The Punkrock Verses." With the influx of bands from their corner of Belgium you can see where the influences come by. On this release it's more straigth forward punk rock songs, mostly being fast. Unlike their second release which has some screams (which add immensily to the music) this release lacks that intensity and drive. But don't get me wrong, for a first album it's a breakthrough in belgian punk rock. These guys are tops over there. Johan knows how to write and deliver his lyrics so keep that in mind :) |

| This band has hints of the Satanic Surfers older stuff in their music (Hero of our time) as well as Millencolin in their vocals. I'm not sure about the NFG sound though...maybe just as melodic. I liked this CD. Good songwriting and catchy choruses. I'd buy another release from them if it was available. |
