Great tracks. The legend of the Teen Idles still grows strong to this day. I wish the band would have put out more music before seperating. A good price for this CDEP.

8/26/2007 by Drew from San Angelo, TX Rating:
If you, like many people are on your way to collecting every piece of recorded music that features Ian MacKaye, then this is completely essential. He played bass in this band. The band, not to be confused with (Nashville) Teen Idols who came way later, was together for about 14 months in 1979-1980 before Minor Threat. This is not Minor Disturbance, the first EP of the Teen Idles featuring fellow punk and Ian’s younger brother Alec’s X’d hands and first release of Dischord Records. Instead it’s the 100th release from Dischord, a celebration of the longevity and success of Dischord and a throwback to the first release they put out and essentially the reason they created Dischord to begin with. If you want to hear some of the songs off Minor Disturbance you need to get Dischord 1981: Year In 7in. which features “Get Up and Go” “Dead Head” “Fleeting Fury” “Too Young to Rock” none of which are on this release. This can be found on interpunk. Instead of the X’s hands the cover features Jeff and Ian on the cover in their graduation robes. CD comes with lyrics in a cardboard case. Other Teen Idles songs can be found on the Flex Your Head compilation which is available on Amazon. The first track Adventure is instrumental and has a surf/old rock’n’roll/blues feel and wouldn’t feel out of place on the latest Queers disc, Munki Brain. It was actually a song from The Slinkees which was the band they were in before Nathan sang. Trans Am was also a Slinkees song. As others have previously mentioned, this isn’t fast ass shit like Minor Threat but its not mid-tempo either. This is considered an important piece of harDCore history however it has a lot more melody than Minor Threat. Ian played bass and is featured on the CD itself. Jeff Nelson, co Dischord Records owner and who was also in other bands with Ian such as Minor Threat and Egg Hunt, played drums. Lead vocals are done by Nathan Strejcek, and guitar by Geordie Grindle. Photographs of Ian, Jeff and Nathan can be found in the recent book, Punk Life, by friend Susie H. Jorgan. Clocking in at 9:48, this is catchy as hell and you really need it in your collection if you don’t have it. Even though this is before the term straight edge was actually coined, there are parts in a few songs that show the disapproval of smoking and drinking which would later translate into a more angry and aggressive take in Minor Threat such as "Cigarette dangles from your painted lips, you wear the shoe because it fits" on 'Sneakers' and "You get drunk with the boys, you got out and make lots of noise" on 'Trans Am'. As if sharing 2 members wasn’t enough to have in common, the Teen Idles also covered the Monkee’s classic “Stepping Stone” as did Minor Threat. The longest song is under 2 and half minutes and if that’s not enough to get you to buy it, then I’m not sure what it will take. The last track Fiorucci Nightmare/ Gettting In My Way is 2:18 and thats two separate songs on one track!!

Teen Idles was the first band Ian Mackaye (from the awesome band Minor Threat & Fugazi) was in, he played bass. Anyway this is the band that started Dischord Records & basically the DC music scene, which has many excellent bands. This is decent old school punk.

this cd is awsome im really dissapointed that it doesnt really go for that long and that their other release is out of print i would really reconmend this cd its a good buy good early hardcore

10/31/2004 by Michael from Thunder Bay, ON Canada Rating:
I bought this because it is a piece of the harDCore scene's history. This is not very fast, as most of Ian Mackaye's earlier bands were. It has 6 songs on it, Teen Idles really stand out the most. If you're getting into the early 80s punk scene, check out Minor Threat, Descendents, Circle Jerks, Black Flag or Bad Brains first. Its worth the $5 you probably would end up spending on a hamburger.

8/12/2004 by Brad from Washington, PA Rating:
not too great. its the early days so its kinda poppy. i suggest the year in 7in. for good teen idles stuff, thats when they got fast

7/12/2004 by Frances from Durham, NC Rating:
This is the first EP that the Teen Idles ever made, but it wasn't released until recently. It was a demo, but as it says on the inside cover, they eventually re-recorded most of the songs on it onto the Minor Disturbance EP because they wanted the songs to be faster. This is good, but I would suggest that if you're new to the Teen Idles to get Minor Disturbance first, then this. Overall it's still really cool, though.

1/7/2004 by Craig from Madison, WI Rating:
If you like Minor Threat, you'll probably like this. Ian Mackaye and Jeff Nelson's band before Minor Threat. All the songs are great.
