This is completely fucking fantastic. Only two songs, much like Grand Union/Skewbald. Written in 1986 and recorded in London, Egg Hunt was pre-Fugazi, post-Minor Threat but shows exactly which direction Ian was going in. Its just Ian MacKaye on guitar, bass, vocals and Jeff Nelson on drums and vocals: Dischord Records finest! The first track, "Me and You" is 3:48 and actually features some spoken word material which I love and I hope you do too. It slowly fades out at the songs end. There is a ton of melody and depth, its quite slow and not aggressive and fast as hell. Really nice. The second track, "We All Fall Down", is exactly one minute under track 1 clocking in at 2:48. It was actually written for Ian's band Embrace but was used on this release as Egg Hunt instead. Ian and Jeff were in England at Southern Studios to talk about getting distribution for Dischord Records and decided to record some music with John Loder. Someone in relation on him, Tasha, sang on "Me and You". This whole experience was in March around Easter, hence the name Egg Hunt.

Drums sound really clean, hollow almost. Production is really quite good. Both songs start out with a badass bass line. About a minute in to the second song, it strips down really simple and there are some fantastic harmonies.

This was re-released in 1997. There is no lyric book included. Back cover photo is Jeff Nelson laying in a floor covered with gum. Total time of both songs: 6:36. This is the beauty of owning your own record label: You can release whatever you want, whenever you want, no matter 2 songs or 20. Buy this.

“Uhh, think you already know what this song’s about.”

Get it.
