Dropkick Murphys

Blackout

Epitaph/Hellcat 80446

Released on June 10, 2003

$12.75

This album contains 14 new tracks and a bonus DVD with 4 extra video pieces on it! The music on Blackout rocks, has a truckload of sweat, blood and energy & conveys an intense insight into relationships (Walk Away) & personal politics (Gonna Be A Blackout Tonight - lyrics written by Woody Guthrie after the band was given special exclusive access & permission to use the words of Woody Guthire through his family). The record still contains rousing tunes rooted in Irish music & American Folk (Black Velvet Band & The Dirty Glass) and destined to be a Boston Bruins call to arms classic called "Time To Go". And it's important to mention that each member of the band played a crucial role, working hand in hand to create this new record. Everyone's influence from the youngest member of the band to the most experienced, bring together their many influences to play a role in creating an all time gem of a rock record. With each new record, they just don't let up, their passion, life experience & and true commitment to music fans shines through on every song.

I got this CD about a month ago and I'm only just getting round to write a review, but this disc has been constantly in my player since then! This is my favourite CD from my 250+ collection at the moment. There's so much variety on this CD, and lots of energy which just makes it a fun CD to listen to. Maybe toned down a bit from their older stuff (with the exception of "Gonna Be A Blackout Tonight") but that's not necessarily a bad thing in this case. Highlights are Fields of Athenry, Dirty Glass, Gonna Be A Blackout Tonight, Worker's Song, As One, Time To Go, Buried Alive...there isn't a bad song on here! If you like anything by the Murphys (or Flogging Molly and the Pogues) you will not be disappointed by this CD!

First of all this is Ronny not Cathy. This CD is really good. I don't like the new singer as much as the old guy but this guy is pretty good. The best song is probably Gonna Be A Blackout Tonight. If you don't know if you should buy this album I would say go get The Singles Collection 96-97 before you get this.

In my opinion, this is the best Dropkick Murphys album. Every song is really great and filled with true punk rock attitude and emotion. I love their classic album "Do or Die", but I think "Blackout" is even better.

DKM are one of the best bands around and grow with every release without losing their appeal. You can feel a bit of every previous release in this one. This is definately worth picking up and wont leave your CD player for awhile. The DKM are one of those rare bands that you can put in their CD and listen to it years down the road and it still is like its new. GET THIS!!
