| Belvedere/Downway - Split - Hometown Advantage |
These Calgary heavy hitters are joining forces for a split CD. It's a split full length and a split label release between Sessions and The Union Label Group out of Canada, entitled "The Hometown Advantage". We hope you know Downway by now, but if you don't, this will be a perfect opportunity to check them out. With a new second guitarist and a new drummer in place, they're in top form, converting their already strong melodic punk rock into something even stronger and harder hitting. We're also happy to be working with their partners in crime, Belvedere. They're one of the hardest working hardcore punk bands out there right now and we know you've been hearing about them more and more lately.

| I bought this CD for Belvedere. I've heard of Downway before, but I never really listened to them. Their songs are first, so I'll start with them: The Downway songs are alright. They're a solid skate-punk band with catchy melodies and rockin' guitar riffs. I wish they'd speed it up, though. They don't have a lot of fast material. Overall, after listening to them for the first time on this CD, I would go out to look for other releases by them. Ok, Belvedere. What can I say? Simply amazing. All of their songs on this CD just blow my mind. Fast/technical/melodic. It's skate-punk at it's finest. My favorite song is "Brandy Wine", except they re-recorded it on their last album, "Fast Forward Eats the Tape" and it sounds a lot better. This is a great effort from both bands. Buy it now. |

| It's a shame that Downway had to share this cd with Belvedere. If I had heard Downway by themselves I would have liked them a lot more, but when placed next to Belvedere they come across looking slightly like amateurs. Don't get me wrong, the songs are good, but Belvedere blows them out of the water. The Belvedere songs are the perfect mixture of speed, technical riffs, tempo chages, odd melodies and mid tempo rockin'. Like that girl at the bar who doesn't stand out based on appearance, but will twist your head off your neck in a conversation, Belvedere is familiar and and the same time like no other punk band you will ever hear. BELVEDERE RULES ALL!!!! |

| This cd is awesome. Before buying this i had never heard of Downway, but i have owned belvedere's "Fast Forward Eats the Tape" for a while.
I'll start off with the Downway
The Downway material is amazing. Everyone on the site who has reviewed it has not given them enough credit. Downway uses some of the best pop-punk song writing compostition i have heard in awhile, with lyrics everyone can relate to I would've paid the same price for just the downway.
Now on to the belvedere
After only hearing FFETT, i had expected this to be somwhere along the same lines of some very very technical punk rock with excellent composure, but nothing could have prepared me for what i heard.
The belvedere was absolute bliss. Its not as heavy as the material on FFETT, and more leaning towards the side of some extremely solid fast pop punk.
They start off with Home Ice Advantage. A lot of people said this was there favorite song on the cd, and with good reasoning. While not following the straight forward fast punk drum scheme we all know, the enroute a similar yet completely different sound that sets this song aside from everything on FFETT. "Taken for granted every single gift that we've been given". And Excellent first track.
After that they go to Paradise. Now this is my favorite song on the cd. A lot of good vocal attributes along with an awesome guitar line drive this song all the way home.
Next is Seconds Away, which is the heaviest song on this cd. A tad of screaming and some hardcore/punk riffs make this an excellent song, and if this is your first Belvedere cd, it is a good preview of what to expect on Fast Forward.
Next is Brandy Wine. They redid this song for fast forward, so i heard the second version of it before i heard the first. I definetly prefer this version. It is a lot less polished, and with a couple different lyrics. The thing i did not like is that the drum line wasn't as technical as the one Graham did for Fast Forward (they switched drummers between the 2 albums). Not to be rude, but Graham definetly displays a lot more talent. Still an excellent song, and a perfect first song to listen to if your trying to get into belvedere.
Last but certainly not least is Distress. This song kicks so much ass. It's a lot like Al's War by Less Than Jake, in the way that its an anthem about something we should all think about, but the song is about a totally different subject. I believe its about an abusive relationship, from lines like "here's a classic situation, i've seen it all before, she's lives in fear of the one who's supposed to to care". A great song, and an excellent way to en the cd.
One of my favorite cd's. Thanks Belvedere, Thanks Downway. Deff. pick this one up! |

| Oh my god. I've been a Belvedere fan for a while, but this is clearly their best. The Downway section is good, but not as fast or technical as their old stuff. not bad, but Belvedere really shines here. They kick stuff off with Home Ice Advantage, this song seriously hauls. My other favourite is Brandy Wine. If you love fast technical punk that rocks amazingly hard, get this cd, or get the new cd Fast Forward Eats The Tape on April 20th! |

| I have no idea why I am the first person to review this?!?!!? This cd is truley amazing. Both bands, Belvedere and Downway, are incredibly fast and talented. My fav song on here is either Home Ice Advantage or Brandy Wine(both by Belvedere)...and just because they are both by Belvedere does not mean that Downway isn't great too, cuz they rule!!! So check this out when it comes back into stock before it's too late!!! |
