Great album if you love The Methadones and Cover Songs. They still manage to keep the Methadone sound within each and every one too. Annie Soviette guest vocals were a surprise. Only wish more than half of the tracks were recognizable by myself without research.

It's ok, i guess. I've been wanting a new Methadones album since Economically came out, and this ain't it. The novelty wears off after a listen or two, as not many of the songs really fit the Methadones style at all. I guess if you just wanna complete your collection, it might be ok, but if you're new to the band, pick up Not Economically Viable, it's light years better

This is good. I was kind of disappointed when I first heard about this because it was a whole CD of covers, but it is pulled off very well. Just some catchy, upbeat, driving with your windows down summer music.

When I first saw the title of this Methadones album "21st Century Power Pop Riot", I made the sour face. I HATE the term pop. And even more so, I hated how in the early 2000's bands that were once "Pop-Punk" (before that became a dirty term)were now calling themselves "Power-Pop". As if to say they are more mature now, or some crap like that. I soon realized this was NOT a new Methadones album, but a collection of there favorite covers songs from dudes like Elvis Costello. Okay...now I understand the name of the album. It's their favorite songs from artists who were almost punk, but not quite (see the JAM). The Methadones chose some great songs to cover and I'm really enjoying the CD.

This album just unleashes a fury of balls to the wall awesomeness. The Methadones sure know how to pick 12 kick ass songs that would just sound perfect for them to cover. This is the perfect album to listen to when you want to energize yourself and have some fun. I really enjoyed the songs they covered that I knew beforehand like Joe Jackson's "I'm The Man," Elvis Costello's "Welcome to the Working Week," and Cheap Trick's "He's A Whore." They also do an amazing job at songs that I never knew existed but then had to check out after hearing this album. The Pointed Sticks cover "Out Of Luck" is just awesome, and the Scandal cover "Goodbye To You" with Annie from the Soviettes providing vocals is just amazing in its own right. I'd love to see the Methadones and Soviettes go on tour together again just so they could play that song live.

Other great tracks include Leader Of The Gang, Walking Out Of Love, Full Moon Turn My Head Around, and the incredibly infectious cover of the Jags "Back Of My Hand." Hot damn is that song so catchy. I have to give credit to Dan, Mike Byrne, Pete, and Mike Soucy; they all do an amazing job on this album. The production on this album is also just top notch so praise needs to go to that. Also Red Scare deserves a massive amount of praise for putting this CD out, that Toby guy sure knows how to run a kick ass record label. Keep up the good work, all of you!!

Overall the Methadones show that there is nothing wrong with power pop or pop punk, it can be some quite amazing music if done by the right people. If you ever get a change to see the Methadones live then do so. I've seen them live nine times and they have been highly entertaining every single time. I can't wait to see them for the tenth time with the fan-fucking-tastic Dillinger Four on July 5th, that's going to be a night I'll never forget. This album is toally going to be on my list of the Best of 2006 and I can't see myself ever getting sick of this album. The Methadones are my favorite band second only to the almighty Bad Religion. So please buy this and enjoy!!

For all of you ill-informed little pukes....THIS IS A COVERS ALBUM!!!! And it's great! The Methadones cover the one genre that hasn't been covered to death...Power-Pop. Everything from Elvis Costello to the Pointed Sticks. Incredible song selection here. If you love the Methadones, Power-Pop, or Pop-Punk you'll dig this. Makes me wanna drink!

The reason i bought this album is because the Methadones covers some of the best power pop band of the late 70's and 80's. This is power chords filled with pop hooks and the job is well done! Classic songs of the THE BEAT "walking out of love" The RECORDS "starry eyes" The JAGS " back of my hand" and POINTED STICKS (one the best west coast canadian band of the 70's)" out of luck" are among my favorite. If your new to those bands you really have to try the original cuz they really rules! Also Some cool back vocals by one of the girl from THE SOVIETTES. A great cover album......and if you dig that power pop punk songs but like it a little bit more garage and dirty you should really put your hands on THE KIDNAPPERS " neon signs" wich is a killer, one the best LP i've heard in a long time!

Well, I should've been at the record release show for this album. Unfortunatly being 20 and wanting to go to shows at The Note don't mix, so I ended up ordering this sucker online. The couple extra days wait was well worth it because this is top notch stuff. If you thought the Meth's last album was a bit too melancholy then you'll love the songs they cover on this. The Methadones are one of my favorite bands and I am not disappointed in the least by this release. The hooks are everywhere, it's like you're getting chased by Leatherface or something. The production value on this is absolutly clean as a whistle too. My favorite song has to be "Welcome to the Working Week," though "Goodbye to You" and its guest vocal spot by Annie from the Soviettes runs a close second. It's funny, because Kill Your Idols covers the same song but in such a different way.

Rambling done, pick this up if you like catchy tunes.

Great cd of power pop covers. Methadones do a great job. What else would you expect from Dan Shaffer?Includes covers from Elvis Costello and Cheap Trick and other bands I have never heard of. The best song is probobly "Starry Eyes". I recomend it for someone looking for a fun time.
