Brendan Kelly And The Wandering Birds - I'd Rather Die Than Live Forever
Brendan Kelly is a blogger, father, TV host, and
frontman of The Lawrence Arms; and this newest
rock band was formed in the spirit of other artist
collectives like Wu-Tang Clan and Crass. The
ambitious 12-song debut is a brave collaboration
of friends (musicians, graphic artists, studio nerds,
and even a college film professor) and it offers
diverse songs and ample instrumentation to set
this album apart from the typical punker-goes-acoustic
project. The Wandering Birds employ
distorted guitars, vibraphone, lap steel, drum
loops, piano, and more to deliver a true
departure—both musically and thematically—on
this dynamic record.

This is really really really good. Only shades of Larry Arms are found in this album. Well....if you remember the last offering from The Lawrence Arms "Buttsweat & Tears", Brendan had this whiskey soaked/Aged sound to some of his verses, that I had not heard on previous LA albums. Some of that sound represents the vocals here. I love it. This album has a wide range of sound and style. Give it a chance if you are a fan of Brendan and his past works, but have an open mind!

I'm a huge Lawrence Arms fan and always check out everything the members are involved with and this is great as expected. It is however, nothing out of the ordinary. It's pretty much a cleaner Lawrence Arms with Americana influence. But that's okay because it still rules and will tide me over until LA puts out something new.......i hope that's soon.
