| Dead To Me - African Elephants |
Three years after their widely acclaimed debut release, Cuban Ballerina, Dead To Me are back with the long promised follow up full-length, African Elephants. The extra time spent creating and honing the album, while agonizing for fans, proved to be well worth it. From the very first track, the dub inspired “X” , the maturation of Dead To Me’s sound is overtly apparent. What follows is a course of songs that both disarm and captivate the listener while seamlessly switching tempos and genres. African Elephants completely dismantles all preconceived notions that listeners may have form about Dead To Me. Each song is intriguing in its own right from the driving punk classics “Modern Muse” and “ Nothin Runnin Through My Brain”, to Clash-esque anthem “ A Day Without War” and the contemplative “Cruel World”. The dual lead vocals intermingle with each other perfectly from track to track, providing a varied yet cohesive vehicle for the album.

| Sad to say, I too am disappointed, there are a few good songs but the album as a whole is just so lacking, I feel exactly the same as the other reviewer and if what Fat's website says is true, I can't wait for Jack to come back. I love everything Chicken has ever done but this album is just missing something. |

| Very let down with this album, though knowing Jack is not contributing set me up for dissapointment to begin with. First off, Jack was the main glue to this group IMO. Chicken is great at what he does but Jack made them what the are. One of the best Punk acts out their. From his vocals, very original guitar work, to his always inviting lyrics I wandered how chicken and now frontman Nate would do. Not to well IMO. Where is the punk rock on this album. Their are moments but few of them. Nathan's vocals while are surpisingly soothing have nothing on the natural raw and sweet tones from jack. The guiatar work was sharp at times but very boring in many other spots. Like I said there is little punk on this full length. I think I enjoy 4 or 5 songs where as I love every song on the previous releases. Now granted I am a huge OMA fan I have alot of appreciaton for Mr. Dalrymple from the get go, and he seems to always age well musically. Not seen here because he isn't on it!
Ok album... nothing I am going to spin to often unfortutaley |
