Real McKenzies - Off The Leash
The Real McKenzies are true gadabouts at heart. Fueled by an insatiable appetite for filthy punk shows, Scotch whiskey, and all out mayhem, these kilt-clad punks continue on their quest to bring their patented brand of music to the masses. Their latest concoction, Off The Leash, embodies the spirit of The Real McKenzies through a melding of driving punk rhythms and traditional Scottish melodies. Guitars and bagpipes play off each other as Paul McKenzie spins yarns of times long past and recounts endless drunken revelries. The unbridled energy and merriment of Off the Leash will immediately have the listener hoisting a pint glass and singing along to the 13 infectious tracks.

I'm a little disappointed by this album, the McKenzies fail once again to produce an album as good as "Oot and Aboot". But at the same time there are a few songs, "Chip", "My Mangy Hound", "Drink Some More" and "Guy On Stage" are in my opinion the best songs on the album. If you're a fan of the Real Mckenzies it's worth buying, but is definitly not their best work.

This album pisses me off. I love these guys, but this effort shows almost no effort. All the songs but two sound like the same damn song. The pipes have been reduced to background music with no soul. The vocals sound bored as all hell. The melodies are seriously lacking. The music is produced very well but has no energy at all. Not like the other albums where you start smiling and moving as soon as they start up. The only movement I am doing is getting up to turn it down so no one will hear me listening to such a mediocre CD. No feeling at all on this one. You see those dogs on the cover? Look closely...they are as neutered as this album.
