Methadones - This Won't Hurt
Chicago's Methadones got our attention with their last proper album, "Not Economically Viable", which came out on Thick Records in 2004. It was their breakthrough, and anyone who overlooked that LP missed out on the BEST pop punk record of 2004. We then hooked up to release a hilarious party album ("21st Century Power Pop Riot") that featured The Methadones with a number of guest vocalists covering Cheap Trick, Costello, and more. Now it's back to business, and the Methadones have a new batch of originals that pick up where they left off with the great "Not Economically Viable". They recorded it at the famed Atlas Studios in Chi-Town.

This album could possibly be my new favorite Methadones album. i has many more catchy songs and melodies, is a very accurate representation of their sound.

This one does not do a whole lot for me. I like the Methadones other CDs a lot, but this one just doesn't grab me. In a way, it seems like the band is sort of running in place and they don't have much new to offer. There's something about Dan's voice that I don't like on this one, either, but I can't place my finger on what is. It looks like I'm in the minority on this one, but I'm just sort of bored by this CD.

Another exceptional offering from the kings of power-pop. If you like anything by these dudes, weasel, bottlerocket etc. this is a must have. Red scare has become one of my favorite labels in the past couple of years thanks to bands like this....

I've been into The Methandones since Ill At Ease, and their records only seem to get better and better. This one has a lot more of a power-pop sound, but that's no problem for me. Vapid (Dan Schafer for those you who didn't come to know him through Screeching Weasel first) still manages to crank out some seriously catchy songs. In my opinion, this is some of his best efforts, ever. And I'm not just speaking in terms of Methadones tunes. That includes his work with Sludgeworth, The Mopes, and The Riverdales as well. If you're no longer a young punk, you'll definitely relate to the songs on here. Vapid manages to capture the weird, awkward sensations felt while being a part of today's rapidly changing punk scene. Even if you are a young, naive punk, you can at least apprectiate Vapid's snarky remarks toward Warped Tour on "Getting Older/Losing Touch". This is easily a record for everybody, even those that aren't punk fans.

what can i say? their last album i wasn't a fan of but this one just blew my mind. it's a good reason why pop punk or powerpop punk isn't dead yet and is kicking people in the nutts

i didn't enjoy this cd as much as "ill at ease", or "not economically viable". although, if your a true follower of the Methadones, you will pick it up, and you will like it.

Good album. I enjoyed Career Objectives more, but the song Alcohol Makes The World Go Round is the best song of both albums.
