For the past few years, the Connecticut-based Life In Your Way has been sharing their melodic hardcore sound throughout the country... The road hasn’t been easy – there have been new faces, new tastes, new creativities – but through it all, the band has created a voice unique to the genre. LIYW has always been able to keep their motivation and passion simple, making positive, truth-filled music and building up anyone who comes in their path. In 2002, the band recorded their self-released EP All These Things Tie Me Down, followed by their debut full length The Sun Rises and the Sun Sets, and Still Our Time is Endless. Since that time, the band has lived on the road, building friendships and doing their best to change the world, one song and one relationship at a time.Waking Giants proves that they have not been sitting idle. Enter a new era of melodic hardcore!

I was rather excited to get this album, mainly because I heard Making Waves and I really enjoyed it. I recieved it and started listening to it. My first impression was that it was decent music, some of the clean vocal melodies are rather generic, but it was still enjoyable. Nothing dramatically stood out to me, the guitars were decent, nothing to go tell your friends to listent to the riffs on it or anything. But then, the song Salty Grave came up, and what can I say? Salty Grave is probably the most emotional, wise lyrically, and humble songs I have ever heard in my life. The first minute in its just a good hardcore (whatever the genre is) song, then the breakdown comes. I have never heard a band in that genre, with such lyrics as these guys.

"Upon my arrival, I either learned to swim or drowned

As I struggle for air I see only water

And I reach for anything as I cry for help

I feel my body growing weak, Slipping away, it occurs to me that my cries are worthless Acknowledging death

I no longer mourne my own loss And I begin to sing praises to the one that has me here

As I sink to my salty grave I drowned"

With the music at the same time, and the screamer yelling, it gives me shivers every time I listen to it. So emotional How humble is that? Wow.

Now, besides that one song, the album really grew on me fast, definetly one of the top in the genre for me. I love these guys. It's not easy to come across a really talented band with this sound, that has lyrics like that, throughout the whole album. It's refreshing, most bands seem to hide their messages inside lyrics that can be missinterpreted.

Musically, decent, still nothing incredible, but it complements the vocals. And vocals are top notch, excellent scream/growl (reminds me of Tim Lambesis from AILD) Cleans are good too.

well, i for one love this band. they defently fall into the singy screamy combo which generally i avoid but this band has something i like. their breakdowns rule, and i think the fact they don't have verse-course verse-course shit makes it rad. no hooks, or shit, just rad music that makes me happy. reminds me of underoath, and maybe, old hopesfall, which fucking rules.

Goddamn I had some high hopes for this cd only to be let down for the most part. It's funny because I just realized i've reviewed every LIYW cd on interpunk. The first is their best, then second, then this. They definitely deserved getting signed to a larger label than Indianola but I dont like Solid State because most bands end up like this. LIYW has that gift most bands don't of have these energetic parts that can make you get chills and feel the energy. Mostly because of their vocalist. However, they tone down the screaming and have a lot of singing that, while sometimes done well, is really emoish, cheesy and even really......"spiritual" sounding. I don't know if that's what they were going for, I always hoped they would release a cd with better production. They did just that but either lost their touch, lost their heart or are simply trying to cash in. If you've never heard them I'd check out their old stuff. Imagine Shai Hulud meets Hopesfall circa Satelite Years.
