Jackson United

Western Ballads

Magnificent

Released on May 31, 2005

This item is not available for purchase. Sorry!

The first full length JACKSON UNITED album. Of the album's 14 sweetly spiked high volume numbers, Shiflett says, "It's guitar pop. Not as heavy as Foo Fighters stuff. And there's some stuff that's pretty mellow and vibey." Fair enough: Fans of Foo Fighters-as well as the various other bands Chris has played in virtually since puberty, including NO USE FOR A NAME and ME FIRST & THE GIMME GIMMES-will find plenty to love in the uptempo "Lion's Roar," "All The Way" and "Fell Into," while the-dare we say-laid back and mature arrangements of "OK Alright" and "Here Comes Hollow" could find a perfect fit alongside the more female-friendly favorites of the Foos repertoire.

Chris Shiftlett from Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and the Foo Fighters (and ex-No Use for a Name). This album is good, kind of poppy. It doesn't sound like MFATGG or the Foo Fighters. The weakest track is "She's Giving In", other than that, I enjoyed all the other tracks a lot and that track isn't horrible.

This is a great record by Chris and I have to agree with the guy below, he is one of my all time favorite guitarists. Some songs off the e.p. are on this record but still there is more of a rock feel to it. So if you are looking for some punk you won't like this. All in all the songs are well strutured and its good production. I can't believe they had to change their name from Jackson to Jackson United cause of the man with the glove...

Chris Shiflett is hands down my favorite guitarist of all time. I thought I was going to cry when he left my favorite band, No Use For A Name. That being said, I can't say that I'm all that impressed with this stuff...their last release (an EP under the moniker Jackson) was way more melodic, catchy and upbeat. Pretty much everything that this album is not, no offense Chris!!!

Chris Shiflett's sideband offers us a sweet and soft soothing rock album with this one. Don't look for punk, it's not. But the result is pretty entertaining and agreeable. Western Ballads is a fine and promising release : Jackson United manages to define their own style which makes you feel like you're enjoying one cool and laid-back summertime.
