20 Pound Shovel was formed in the garage of a family home in St. Anne Manitoba, Canada. Jay and Matt are brothers, and Luc is "the boy next door". Jay and Luc both had about 5 years of guitar behind them. 2 years ago Jay switched to drums and little brother Matt learned to play bass and 20 Pound Shovel was born. According to their parents, there was an awful lot of noise coming from the garage and at some point things changed and then there was actual music. Carazzy.
Their guitar teacher was so impressed with them that he helped them record a demo. They wasted no time sending it everywhere that they could think of. It won them a spot in Mitch Dorge's "playout" concert series in Winnipeg. It won them a high school contest put on by the Minister of Education and then it won them the local "Talent Search" sponsored by Freq107 fm and Criminal Records.
